The New York University men's soccer team battled Kean University to a 0-0 draw on Saturday, September 12, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
Despite being unable to find the back of the net, the Violets delivered a strong attacking performance from start to finish, controlling possession and generating 33 shots while consistently applying pressure to the Cougars' defense.
"We lacked clarity and focus and were too casual in front of the box instead of being clinical," said Head Coach Kim Wyant said. "Dropping points at home is a major missed opportunity."
Although the Violets had yet to find the back of the net through the first half, NYU's offense recorded 14 shots, while the defense held Kean to just three.
In the 35th minute, Violets' goalkeeper Gabino Talisayon came up with a crucial save to keep the match scoreless as the first half entered its closing minutes.
In the 64th minute, Talisayon came up with another save to keep the Cougars off the board and preserve the scoreline.
In the 81st minute, Tim Brdaric appeared to break the deadlock, burying a shot into the back of the net off a feed from Kaan Akturan. However, the goal was nullified by an offsides call.
Closing out the match, the Violets once again controlled the offensive pressure in the second half, out-shooting the Cougars 19-2.
Despite threatening the Cougars' defense throughout the match, the Violets were unable to find the breakthrough as the final whistle brought the contest to a close.
Keyon Namdar led NYU with six shots, followed by Demir Calkap with four. Lazar Mijatovic, Fabio Orozco, Arion Ulaj and Giulio Potenti each recorded three, while Mark Shields and Kacey Pasha added two apiece.
In goal, Talisayon capped off the day with two saves.
The Violets return to action on Monday, September 14, at 7:00 PM when they host John Jay College at Lubetkin Field back in Newark NJ.
